Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could have been a much better product if the technical issues had been ironed out.
Star Wars is one of the attractive and pleasant series that has a large audience in the medium of cinema and television. Also, in the past decades, various games have been made based on this collection, some of which have provided a very good experience. However, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a product that could make today’s audience hope for this series in the game medium. That is when Electronic Arts received different reviews by publishing two versions of Star Wars Battlefront.
Now, four years after Fallen Order, the newest version of Star Wars Jedi is available to users. Where Cal Kestis is more mature and better than ever on stage to entertain his audience. But, the main question is, is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a mature and attractive game like its hero? The answer is both yes and no. We have seen a product that has many strengths, but its weaknesses weigh more heavily on the bottom of the scale.
The story of the game is told five years after the events of Fallen Order. Now Griz, Merrin and Cere are no longer with Cal Kestis, and during the introduction of the game, we see a Jedi Knight who entered the planet Coruscant with Bode Akuna to steal information from Senator Daho Sejan, apart from destroying the Imperial forces. However, everything does not go according to his wish and we witness the destruction of Mantis’ ship. Now Kell Kestis has entered the planet Koboh to repair the Mantis, to meet Griz and launch his ship.
The introduction of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor promises an interesting and gripping story, and I must say that this version offers a fun and exciting story from the Star Wars universe. The story-telling and story-telling of the game had a promising start from the very beginning and it continues the same path until the final credits, and the sub-items of the game world, such as sub-missions and exploration in the world of Survivor, do not make you lag behind the story and the speed of its storytelling. Also, the characterization of the positive characters of the game is at a very good level. Cal Kestis has matured since his Padawan days and is now a full-fledged knight. Of course, he is still worried about drowning in his mistakes.
Mistakes that caused Cal’s old and beloved teammates to separate from him and choose a new path during these five years. All of these things are well represented in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Although the complexities of the story and the characterization of the positive characters have the necessary quality, the negative characters of the game could have been more attractive and according to the overall story, he has become one of the lovable villains of the Star Wars universe, which unfortunately did not happen to all of them. Also, if you are among the new users and want to experience Survivor without Fallen Order experience, the game has prepared a prelude video for you about the events of the previous version, but to fully understand the events and happenings of the previous version, you definitely need Fallen Order experience.
The characterization of negative characters is not a weak point of the game and is at a good level, but we are not dealing with memorable villains at all.
In terms of gameplay, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor includes all the elements and themes of the previous version and expands them. In other words, we see an action-adventure game that combines world exploration with Metroidvian elements. The protagonist can fight and destroy enemies by using Lightsaber and Force. In Survivor, the combat system is better and more interesting than what we have seen in the past. Respawn Studio has defined various Stances to make the fights more diverse and open the hands of the audience. Each Stance is a different kind of fighting style and has its own advantages and disadvantages.
For example, Stance Blaster allows you to hold a lightsaber in one hand and a blaster in the other. Therefore, your heavy strike with the lightsaber gives way to a blaster shot. It is definitely a good option for long distance battles and harassing enemies. But, enemies who have heavy weapons or you need to break their defense quickly, the mentioned stance is not a good option. Meanwhile, Dual Blade or Crossguard are more suitable options for those people who want to sacrifice speed in hitting for power and more damage.
Which fighting method you choose and how you improve it is very important in the game.
On the other hand, each of the considered fighting methods has its own strikes and thanks to the game’s skill tree, you can improve them or release newer ones. Therefore, which method you choose and how you improve it, is very important in the game. The skills tree has two other branches, Survival and Force, apart from the Light Saber branch, which is specific to combat stances. The Force is centered around the skills of the special force of the Jedi, whose improvement can help you in the fight. Also, some of the skills specific to Libcyber require a force bar. Therefore, upgrading this section in line with the Stance you have chosen is one of the other important aspects of the fighting system. Finally, the survival branch is related to things like increasing the force bar and the health bar.
However, if you have not done the game upgrades properly, there is no need to worry at all. Because, the game allows you to reset all your earned skill points and score again. In general, the appropriate design of Stance or the different combat methods and the efficiency of the skill tree have made the game’s battles exciting and heartwarming. Navigating the world of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is tied to Metroidvinia elements. In this way, some things in the game, such as new environments, chests, where you can get upgrades and trials, need to acquire new skills that you can acquire by progressing in the game and you can explore the game world completely.
Apart from decorative items, earning skill points for the skill tree, earning perks and collecting items needed to buy various items from NPCs are among the rewards that the game offers you, and definitely exploring more will make fights and bosses less difficult. experience the In terms of design, the main and secondary stages of the game are at a good level, and the secondary stages of the game have a fun design. Meanwhile, the annoying thing is the design of mini-bosses and main bosses. Unfortunately, the game could have had many and entertaining main bosses, but now we are witnessing a product whose main bosses do not have the necessary variety at all. At the same time, we see many sub-bosses, but they do not provide the necessary variety. Decorative items include lightsaber skin changes, lightsaber colors, BD-1 skin changes, and Cal Kestis skin changes.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a visually beautiful game. Lightings and environmental details are at a good level and quality. Also, the cinematic cutscenes of the game help the audience in telling the story and provide entertaining moments. The thing that caused the latest creation of Respawn Entertainment on the computer to not have the necessary quality and put all the strengths of the game under its shadow, is the technical performance. Technically, Survivor is a pretty bad port. The presence of numerous glitches and bugs, along with problems related to stuttering and frame drops, have caused both browsing and fighting in the game to be not as enjoyable as it should be.
The technical problems of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have been the Achilles heel of the game
Of course, during the recent update of the game on the computer, these problems have been fixed to some extent, but the game still needs more optimization, and in the current situation, at least the computer version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor cannot be recommended. The music of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is exactly what Star Wars fans expect, and its combination with voice and sound effects will put the player in the space and atmosphere of the game. Also, the music has made the cinematic cutscenes of the game able to induce happy, dramatic and sad moments well.
Ultimately, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a fascinating and entertaining product in its own right. The existence of appropriate storytelling and characterization along with a valuable combat and exploration system is something that entertains every Star Wars audience, but the direct impact of numerous technical problems on the user experience has made it impossible to ignore these problems.
