Dead Island 2 is a zombie killing fest that, despite all its problems, does a good job of entertaining the audience. Follow the game review.
Usually, in the world of video games, when the process of making a work is involved in various issues and margins and as a result of them it takes a long time or the studio that makes the game changes, one cannot hope for the final result of the work. The game Dead Island 2 has also had various problems in this regard, and since 2012, when the whispers of its construction were first heard, it has rotated between three studios until now, until Dembuster Studio was able to finish its construction. But has this had a negative impact on the game?
The events of Dead Island 2 take place in the state of California. Following the appearance and power of zombies, this area is quarantined and a group of survivors are trying to escape with a plane. But due to the zombies finding their way inside and starting shooting, the plane crashes and now the players have to fight the zombies and try to survive by choosing one of the 6 game characters. The main character of the game is attacked by a zombie at the very beginning, and you know the result better than me! However, things go a little differently than expected, and this is the question that you should look for in the game.
The characters of the game each have their own characteristics and behavioral characteristics, and their dialogues and voices are well done.
In terms of story, the main burden of attraction lies on the shoulders of the characters of Dead Island 2. The playable characters each have their own characteristics, but what is more interesting are the dialogues written for them and with appropriate voice acting, this allows us to witness an interesting and appropriate humor during fights or even when dealing with other characters. Its charm is maintained until the end of the game and its mood does not disappear. Apart from these characters, there are other characters in the game whose adventures are worth following; From a former movie actress named Emma and her strange friends to a pilot who lost half of his face due to a helicopter fire and also a mysterious doctor and his nervous daughter who usually first shoots a few arrows at you with her bow and then He listens to you!
Each of these characters has their own story and characterization, which makes it interesting to communicate with them and be interested in understanding their fate. But despite creating such a good potential, when we focus on the story itself, the situation is not so favorable. The story of the game as a whole does not have the necessary closure, and although it raises important questions and introduces us to attractive characters, it ends without answering some of the most important questions. For example, in the game, you will meet a mysterious woman who after some time and following an incident, her mysteriousness even increases, but in the ending, everything related to this character ends in the simplest way, and the game is unable to use the potential created thanks to her presence. Such a character should be used. To put it better, the story of Dead Island 2 ends in the end as if we are dealing with an episodic work and everything is postponed to the future; A future that might be a sequel or even a story expansion pack, but in either case, the result is that the current version ends up kind of incomplete, and that’s not very interesting.
But no matter how much the game has its ups and downs in terms of story, it starts off attractive and remains attractive until the end, and that is nothing but the pleasure of slaughtering unfortunate zombies! These creatures have different types; From the simplest of them, known as walkers, who come towards you with utmost calmness, to examples of sprinters in the form of runners and more muscular types such as crushers and various other types, each of which has its own strengths and weaknesses. And sometimes even among themselves, some species are weak to fire or are completely immune to it. Against the appropriate variety of zombies, the gamer has all kinds of weapons at his disposal so that he never lacks anything to kill them.
Game weapons include cool examples such as swords, axes, spears, sledgehammers or even fork-like weapons, and firearms play a more prominent role in the game than in the first version, from shotguns and machine guns to collets. However, fights in general with cold weapons are much, much more attractive; Each of these weapons has a different weight and hitting style, and even for example, the weight of one sword looks completely different from another sword. Also, the angle of the hit and which part of the enemy’s body you hit will have a different result, and for this reason, the fights will never be repeated, and watching zombies that are dismembered by sword or ax hits on their body parts and you can Visually as well as aurally feel it with all your heart, there’s a strange joy in Dead Island 2.
The fights in the game, especially when you use melee weapons, are very exciting, and hitting zombies with these weapons and watching the different reactions they show depending on the type of weapon and the angle of impact never gets repetitive.
Another interesting point is that with a little creativity, you can use environmental objects to kill enemies in more attractive ways; For example, if there is a pool of acid in the environment, just throw the zombies into it and watch them drown; Of course, provided that they are not safe against acid. Or if you see an exploding barrel, pull the zombies towards it and witness a pleasant explosion with one shot. All of these things work hand in hand to keep the fights lively and interesting throughout, and this is definitely one of the main attractions of Dead Island 2. Of course, fighting with firearms is a little different, and in general, these types of weapons have dry mechanics and do not convey the joy of hitting enemies with cold weapons. That’s why I personally went for firearms mostly when melee weapons broke down or I wanted to keep my distance from a very strong type of zombies, and in other cases, I didn’t deprive myself of the joy of fighting with melee weapons!
Dead Island 2 is a collection of main and side missions, and if you want to finish the story, you will need about 15 hours. The main missions of the game, thanks to the appropriate characterization of the characters that we mentioned, and of course surprises in the form of the unveiling of new and stronger zombies that offer a good challenge and even boss fights from time to time or puzzles that you have to solve, have a good appeal and constantly attract players to They take new areas with different designs; As a result, these missions are generally so interesting that you don’t get tired of experiencing them. However, sometimes you reach a point where your character’s level is lower than the enemies and it becomes really hard; In this case, you either have to roam freely in the game environment and destroy a lot of zombies to increase your level, or you have to go to the sub-missions and this is where things get a little bad!
The sub-missions of the game, which are divided into two categories, have one thing in common, and that is that they get repetitive very soon. In these missions, there is usually no news of the special attractions of the main missions, nor any unexpected events waiting for the gamer, and they are mostly limited to finding people or killing zombies in an area, which may be a little interesting in the first few cases, but after a while They become a forced experience to level up and go to the main mission. These missions also have an exclusive bug in a strange way and it happened several times that despite doing the necessary task, the mission did not end and in this case you will have no choice but to reload the game. This issue even made it not so exciting until after finishing the story part, you are given a second chance to go to the remaining missions, and instead you prefer to start everything from the beginning with a new character.
Dead Island 2 takes place in the state of California, and more precisely in the two regions of Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the creators have taken an interesting way to design the apocalyptic and zombie world of the game. At the same time, the constant roaming of dangerous zombies has created a scary atmosphere in the game, and especially this fear is much greater at night, but at the same time, the environment has a kind of freshness specific to Los Angeles. Parts of the environment with luxury villas or dense green vegetation have an interesting sense of aliveness and dynamism and increase the pleasure of sightseeing. Especially since the game has an efficient loot system and there are always hidden things waiting to be found in the corners of the environment, and if you are the type of gamer who enjoys wandering into all the nooks and crannies of the environment, you will definitely like Dead Island. 2 You will be satisfied.
The items you find by doing this can be new weapons or resources ranging from money to building parts. Using resources, you can repair broken weapons or upgrade them with a variety of upgrades. Upgrades include adding capabilities such as fire, acid, or electricity to weapons and are effective against zombies that are weak to these. You can even include improvements such as increased weapon stability. In general, the equipment upgrade system has an efficient design and makes browsing the game environments more enjoyable.
Dead Island 2 even has some role-playing aspects. Over time, by completing missions or killing zombies, the level of the main character will increase, and in this case, instead of directly upgrading the capabilities and fiddling with numbers, the creators have considered a simple but interesting card-based system. As you level up, new cards will open for you and by activating them, you can take advantage of their skills. For example, one card will cause the jumping kicks of the character to throw enemies back, or another card will make it possible to stay in Fury mode for a longer period of time. As you reach higher levels, you will have a large number of cards at your disposal, and due to the limited number of active items among them, you can have your own style of play by choosing the most suitable ones.
The card-based role-playing system, as well as the weapon upgrade system with various upgrades, are designed to be simple yet efficient and help to diversify the game.
Dambuster Studio has created an overall good experience in terms of audio and visual experience in Dead Island 2. The game does not intend to completely challenge the power of 9th generation platforms, nor is it a specific graphic benchmark, but the image you see in front of your eyes is of good quality overall, and you will not feel any particular weakness. One of the main visual attractions of the game is the effect that a weapon hit has on the body of zombies, and this case is designed with good details and we see less repetitive and similar results. Also, lighting, especially at night, and effects such as explosions can add beauty to the game. The proper use of music adds to these positive features and we see a good atmosphere in the game. The game also runs smoothly, at least on the PC version we reviewed, which is a huge plus for games these days!
Overall, Dead Island 2 is ultimately a proud game after such a long and challenging development process. The general atmosphere of the game is that, well, if we have to go to battle with zombies, then why not do it with fun? If in many similar games we saw more fear and despair in an apocalyptic world, in Dead Island 2 we are supposed to slaughter zombies in an exciting and slightly exaggerated way while loud music is playing in our headphones. The game doesn’t try too hard to be serious and dark, and ironically, that’s what makes it such a lovely experience. If you’re asking if we’re on the side of a flawless experience, the answer is definitely no, and we’ve talked about the game’s problems in detail. But if your goal in playing any video game is to have fun, then rest assured that Dead Island 2 will not disappoint you.
